Shanghai Changhai Hospital is located on the coast of the East China Sea and the Huangpu River. It was founded in July 1949 and was originally called the Affiliated Hospital of the People's Medical College of the East China Military Region. In July 1951, it was renamed the Affiliated Hospital of the Second Military Medical University. In September 1958, it was renamed the First Affiliated Hospital of the Second Military Medical University. Since 1962, it has been known as Changhai Hospital. In 2017, it was established as the First Affiliated Hospital of the Naval Medical University. After more than 70 years of construction and development, it has become a modern, large-scale, comprehensive, tertiary-level A-class military hospital with a complete range of disciplines and strong comprehensive strength, forming a "one hospital, two districts and three affiliated" pattern. 

The hospital is located at Changhai Road, Yangpu District, and the Hongkou branch is located at Dongjiangwan Road, Hongkou District. It has 62 clinical departments and more than 2,700 beds. It has 6 national key disciplines under its leadership, 9 national key disciplines under its participation, 1 national clinical medicine research center, 14 national clinical key specialties, 16 military specialty centers (institutes), and 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It has a leading level and strong comprehensive clinical strength in the treatment of burns and trauma, diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases, diagnosis and treatment of urinary system diseases, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and large blood vessels, whole organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine for the treatment of tumors.
