The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University was established in 1980. It is the earliest oral and maxillofacial specialty in southern Sichuan that integrates medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. It consists of sub-specialties such as oral and maxillofacial-head and neck tumors, craniomaxillofacial trauma and repair, cleft lip and palate and facial plastic surgery, alveolar surgery and dental implants. The number of patients treated annually ranks among the top in the same professional departments in the province. There are 28 medical staff, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors, and 1 returned overseas student; 3 doctors and 8 masters. It undertakes the diagnosis and treatment of a large number of patients with oral and maxillofacial plastic surgery, tumors, infections and trauma emergency.

1. Plastic surgery and cosmetology: various congenital malformations of the oral and maxillofacial region (such as cleft lip, cleft palate, correction of jaw deformity and congenital craniofacial deformity), repair of acquired severe defects and deformities of maxillofacial bones and soft tissues, reconstruction of appearance and function, craniofacial cosmetology (such as mandibular angle hypertrophy, high zygomatic bone, short chin, wrinkle removal, eye, nose and lip plastic surgery), secondary repair and reconstruction of old fractures, etc.
