The Cancer Center of West China Hospital of Sichuan University is the largest comprehensive cancer treatment center in the southwest region. It is a key discipline of the Ministry of Education, a key specialty of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and a national clinical trial base for new anti-cancer drugs. The Cancer Center ranks among the top ten in the national ranking of cancer specialties. As part of the Cancer Center, the Department of Thoracic Oncology mainly treats chest malignancies such as lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and mediastinal tumors. It has 71 medical staff, including many professors, associate professors, and doctoral and master's supervisors.

The Cancer Center provides patients with first-class chest tumor diagnosis and treatment services in China through a multidisciplinary comprehensive diagnosis and treatment model (MDT), in conjunction with the respiratory department, thoracic surgery department, imaging department, pathology department and precision medical center. In addition, the Cancer Center also provides humane services such as cancer pain assessment and treatment, psychological counseling for cancer patients, nutritional assessment guidance for cancer patients and tumor infection control, and has a dedicated team to provide patients with information on clinical trials of cutting-edge anti-tumor new drugs.

The Cancer Center also undertakes the teaching and internship of international students, undergraduates and postgraduates in thoracic oncology at the West China Medical Center of Sichuan University, as well as the clinical teaching of standardized training for oncology resident doctors and nurses. Through academic exchanges and remote consultations with network hospitals and grassroots hospitals, standardized anti-cancer treatment in the region has been promoted.

In terms of scientific research, the Cancer Center relies on the National Key Laboratory of Biotherapy and is committed to the basic and clinical translational research of malignant tumors. It has also undertaken a number of major national research projects. The relevant research results have been published in many internationally renowned journals, and some of the research results have been applied clinically.
