The Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery is a "domestic leading and world-class" hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery specialty created by the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army under the new establishment system. It was established on April 30, 2020 and put into operation on June 30. It is a prestigious hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery center that integrates hepatobiliary and pancreatic trauma treatment, diagnosis and treatment of difficult and critical diseases, clinical scientific and technological innovation, and high-level military and civilian talent training. It currently has nearly 280 professional and technical personnel, 13 graduate tutors, 59 medical and scientific research senior professional titles, and an annual surgical volume of more than 8,500 cases. The sub-specialty structure is novel and strong. The first center has a total of 2 wards of liver tumor surgery, 2 wards of pancreatic tumor surgery, 2 wards of biliary tumor surgery and trauma surgery, 1 ward of hepatobiliary and pancreatic intensive care medicine, and a day ward for the conversion treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors. There are 4 wards of hepatobiliary surgery in the fourth center, the sixth center, the seventh center, and the eighth center. The department has a strong development momentum. Minimally invasive surgery, especially robotic surgery, is the department's core technical feature. There are a total of 5 robotic surgical systems for clinical use. The annual number of robotic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeries is more than 1,000, ranking first in the world.
